I hadn't spoken much to the quiet young woman sitting next to me at the dinner table, chatting instead with her parents who were hosting me and feeding me for the evening. Conversation began to dissipate, so I turned to Christina and said, "So, what do you do in Victoria?"
"I'm starting up my own Reiki practice, which will also involve work with chakras, and healing work with drums that takes place in nature. I want to make Reiki accessible to people who are hospitalized or dying, for a lower cost." At least that's the gist of what she said...I was still reeling from the fact that learning more about holistic healing alternatives was on my list of goals for this trip, but I had not set anything up or lined up anyone to talk to...and yet here was someone right now! Amazing how things can line up even without us PLANNING it!
As we chatted about mind-body connection, and I talked about experiencing anger and stress in my body, and how I felt that related to fibromyalgia, Christina suggested she could give me some practices to do that might help, so we retired to the living room with some tea. She explained some physiology to me, and demonstrated a practice called Mind Gems that helps with anger and fear. I've included a diagram about using Mind Gems below, though it's somewhat different from what Christina showed me, hers being more a mix of EFT tapping and Mind Gems. She also told me how rapid back and forth eye movements can help reset the brain...the same technique used in EMDR, which is related to the REM sleep cycle. She also demonstrated some visualization techniques that help bring energy through your body and connect you to your body and to spirit.
